Preventative Dental Care

Preventative dental care is vitally important to maintaining one’s smile, teeth and gum health throughout one’s life. Preventative care includes a full examination of your teeth and gum tissue at least every six months. The goal is to detect any oral health issues early and reverse any problems that may occur.

Our dental team will assess gum health, integrity of teeth, and the condition of previous fillings, bridges and implants. In addition we will examine the condition of teeth to determine if new cavaties have developed, assess the wear of enamel and possible tooth breakage. X-rays may be suggested to ensure that there are no oral health conditions present that may not be detected by a visual examination.

All new patients will receive a comprehensive base-line examination that will include: an evaluation for periodontal disease; the presence of tooth decay; screening for oral cancer; misalignment of teeth and evaluation for braces, and bite concerns; and jaw disorders including the presence of TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder). All follow-up check-ups will use the base-line examination as a means of detecting new problems or changes in oral health and stability.

Dental Cleaning

Depending on your oral health, dental cleaning usually occurs twice a year. This painless procedure involves a full examination of your teeth and gum tissue and dental cleaning. The goal is to help prevent tooth decay, gum disease and promote and preserve a healthy smile. Dental cleaning is referred to as prophylaxis. This procedure involves the removal of plaque (tartar) deposits, which left untreated, can lead to unhealthy gums and tooth decay.

Oral Health Education

Oral health education is an important part of preventative dental care. Our team will provide individualized information on the ways and means of maintaining positive oral healthcare. Such information will include effective brushing and flossing techniques, information regarding gum disease prevention and suggestions for smoking cessation.

Our team will provide the latest information regarding cosmetic dentistry, including teeth straightening, professional teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and bonding techniques. An important part of our oral health education is to discuss any associations of oral health with other diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, osteoporosis and arthritis. Holistic treatments may be suggested.
